ABOUT INTENSIONAL
Formed in the Tension.
Because faith doesn't happen outside real life.
Most of us know what it feels like to live between two realities.
Between who we are and who we're becoming.
Between what we believe and what we're experiencing.
Between cultural expectations and personal convictions.
Between questions we carry and answers we haven't found.
Between faith and doubt. Between what Scripture says and what following Jesus requires in everyday life.
Intensional exists to engage those tensions rather than ignore them.
We believe meaningful Christian formation begins with taking both Scripture and lived experience seriously. That means creating space for honest questions without abandoning theological conviction, engaging culture without reducing faith to trends, and inviting people toward discipleship without pretending growth is instant or uncomplicated.
Why Intensional?
Intensional takes its name from D.A. Horton's book Intensional: Kingdom Ethnicity in a Divided World and the conviction that the tensions of life are not necessarily obstacles to formation. They can become places where our assumptions are challenged, our understanding deepens, and we learn to follow Jesus more faithfully. We don't believe every question has an easy answer. We also don't believe complexity makes truth impossible to know. Instead, we return to Scripture with humility, curiosity, conviction, and a willingness to respond. Our guiding rhythm is simple: Name the tension. Open the Word. Practice the way of Jesus.
The Mission
To cultivate meaningful Scripture engagement and Christian discipleship through culturally attentive conversations, research-informed learning, creative expression, and practical spiritual formation. We want to help people understand Scripture, engage honestly with questions of faith and culture, and develop practices that shape how they live, love, serve, and follow Jesus.
The Vision
We envision emerging generations engaging Scripture not simply as information to consume, but as God's Word that speaks to their identity, relationships, communities, and everyday decisions. We want Intensional to become a place where conversations inspire learning, research deepens understanding, and discipleship moves beyond digital engagement into embodied practices. We also hope the insights gained through this work will help churches, campuses, educators, and disciple-makers better understand how to support Scripture engagement among emerging generations.
